“Executization” of mobile devices

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Many companies have that secret.

You can’t blame it on the millennials. It’s the top executives that often bring in those first, new Apple devices into the workplace, and then ask IT to “get them set up.” Call it the “executization” of technology. Not “consumerization.”

Who Has Apples at Work? In Many Cases, It’s the Bosses, discusses a study by Frank Gillett, an analyst at Forrester Research, showing that executives tend to be using Apple products at the office – often bringing in their iPads, iPhones and Macs.

“.. 43 percent of people making over $150,000 a year use an iPhone, iPad or Mac for work, making them far more likely than any other group to use an Apple product… That [consumerization] trend is real, but it appears that top decision makers inside big companies are often doing the sneaking, not just rank-and-file employees.”

Our Mobile Enterprise Report showed that provisioning executives, or “special members” was the biggest pain point of IT.

Gillett also found that more companies are buying Macs for their employees. It’s not just the younger workers that favor Apple products, but also the more senior workers, giving Apple another vantage into the Enterprise.
